Founder Story: Andrew Werdean

Andrew Werdean’s career in the audio, video, and smart home industry spans more than four decades—rooted in innovation, entrepreneurship, and a deep understanding of how technology enhances everyday life.

Andrew began his journey in 1980 while attending the University of Wisconsin, working as a sales consultant for a small but ambitious company called Sound of Music—later known as Best Buy. As the company rapidly evolved into a national powerhouse, Andrew grew alongside it, becoming an integral part of its early expansion.

During this time, he helped pioneer new retail concepts, including interactive car audio displays and modular demo systems that transformed how customers experienced technology in-store. These innovations laid the groundwork for modern consumer electronics retailing.

Building an Industry Foundation

At just 21 years old, Andrew launched his first company, Advanced Entertainment Systems, recognizing a growing demand for professional installation and customized audio solutions.

What started as a small operation quickly expanded into a team of nine, serving clients across the Midwest. The company became one of the early leaders in:

• Hidden wiring and clean integration

• Built-in speaker systems for residential spaces

• Custom audio/video installation

Andrew and his team were among the first to collaborate with home builders, bringing structured wiring, security, and integrated technology into residential construction—well before “smart homes” became mainstream.

After years of success, he sold the company, which later became part of a nationally recognized integration network.

Innovation & Industry Leadership

Andrew’s career then took him to Phoenix, where he joined MTX Audio as Marketing Director. There, he led the development of more than 70 products and introduced groundbreaking in-wall speaker technology.

One of his most notable innovations—the Point Series—featured a pivoting “eyeball” tweeter design, a concept that has since become a standard across the industry.

He later continued his influence by contributing to product development and designing over 120 products for leading audio brands, including Jamo and Klipsch, helping shape the evolution of high-performance home audio.

The Birth of TECHOME

Recognizing the future of home technology, Andrew developed the concept for TECHOME—an integrated solution focused on personalized smart home installation and service.

Originally presented as a next-generation service model to Best Buy, the concept quickly evolved into something greater. Through industry connections, Andrew partnered with leaders from a high-end integration firm whose clientele included globally recognized figures such as Michael Jordan, David Letterman, Bill Gates, Sammy Hagar, Eddie Van Halen and Justen Timberlake.

With this collaboration, TECHOME grew into one of the most respected custom integration companies of its time—known for innovation, design, and white-glove service.

Executive Leadership & Continued Impact

Beyond TECHOME, Andrew continued to shape the industry through executive leadership roles, including serving as CEO of Dynaudio and contributing to the growth of control system innovator RTI (Remote Technologies Incorporated).

He has also consulted for leading global brands, helping guide product strategy, marketing, and innovation across the audio and smart home sectors.

A Renewed Vision for TECHOME

Today, Andrew has returned his full focus to TECHOME, based in Chandler and serving the East Valley of Phoenix.
